We are in a global economy, which needs more balance. Take an example of the car manufacturing industry, which is big and running on the principle of leasing. Since very few people buy cars and prefer to lease today this is good for car manufacturers that keeps up with the demand. But soon there might be a saturation point where we would have to think of our natural resources and how sustainably are we using them. Alternatively, what will be the ideal way to handle the traffic and commuting issues in future? One will be having a more connected public transport system or a virtual work environment where employees are working from different locations. The transitions will be hard but unavoidable.
In future we will not just be talking to our GPS or Smartphones but also our cars, homes, clocks and the list goes on and on. Robots will be able to perform not just manufacturing or be your RUMBA cleaner but they would be the way of life. We all are pro-technology but there is a need to safely manage technology growth. With this growth will come challenges like fewer jobs for our growing population, as machines will definitely take over. So how will we be able to reduce unemployment, which will rise with the technical enhancements? Would all countries be able to achieve self-sustenance or there will be dependability to provider countries? It is difficult to think for now but in years we will face a global chaos if cities do not manage their socio-economic growth.
Please feel free to continue this discussion with your suggestions to make our cities more sustainable and a better place.
